Dubai Just Banned the Word "Best" From Clinic Advertising

The Dubai Health Authority published a full set of Standards for Medical Advertisement Content on Social Media this month, covering Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, WhatsApp and LinkedIn. Every DHA-licensed facility and healthcare professional falls under it. The list of banned words alone is long enough that most clinic ad copy in the region needs a second read right now.

The words no longer allowed

Ads can no longer use words such as miraculous, magic, unique, exclusive, safest, incomparable, unprecedented, 100 per cent, assured success, famous, or pioneer, among others. Negative or unfounded statements against other doctors, facilities or government entities are barred as well.

The rules reach past vocabulary

An influencer filming inside a clinic, on their own phone, from their own personal account, still makes that clinic's medical director responsible for the content. It has to be approved before it posts, and the clinic carries the liability either way, regardless of who filmed it or where it was posted from.

Titles are restricted to what is on the license

Cosmetic Specialist, Aesthetic Consultant, Anti-Ageing Specialist, none of these can appear unless that exact title sits on the professional's DHA license. The prefix Dr is reserved for physicians, dentists, and holders of an attested PhD.

What changes for photos and filming

Before-and-after photos now require the same person, the same lens, no editing, and a visible disclaimer that results vary. Written patient consent is mandatory, with separate parental consent required under eighteen. Filming inside an operating theatre for promotional purposes is banned outright, regardless of anaesthesia.

What this means for a doctor working across two countries

A doctor splitting time between Dubai and another country now needs a separate, Dubai-specific social media account that follows all of these standards in full, including for content involving patients treated elsewhere.

Why this is not a small update

This single circular touches ad copy, influencer contracts, photo policy and staff training at the same time. Most clinics have reviewed none of it yet, and the words on the banned list appear in ordinary clinic marketing more often than most owners realise.
